Delft has become synonymous with crime in recent years, with the neighbourhood named as one of the gender-based violence (GBV) hotspots in the Western Cape.
During a recent visit to Delft to showcase the Western Cape Government’s “Break The Cycle” video, Minister of Social Development Sharna Fernandez and Police Oversight and Community Safety Minister Reagen Allen heard residents’ pleas for urgent interventions.
On Wednesday, 26 April, Minister Fernandez, as the lead minister for GBV in the province, will return to Delft to engage with various stakeholders, including neighbourhood watches, community leaders, the South African Police Service, and Department of Social Development social workers to find community-led solutions for the scourge of GBV.
The WCDSD will also outline its planned interventions for Delft.
