Minister Grant officially launches the Western Cape Freight Strategy
Today, Tuesday the 26th of February 2019, Western Cape Transport and Public Works Minister Donald Grant, officially launched the Western Cape Freight Strategy.
The provision of services and infrastructure for the movement of freight in a manner that is safe, affordable, accessible and efficient, while minimising the environmental impacts of transport is essential in advancing economic and social development in the Western Cape. The Western Cape Freight Strategy was developed to respond to current challenges that prevent sustainable freight delivery.
The official launch of the strategy was an opportunity for stakeholders in the Western Cape freight transport sector to come together and discuss interventions proposed in the strategy and how Government will work together with these stakeholders during implementation of the strategy. Stakeholders who participated in the launch included officials from National Government and the Western Cape Government, representatives from industry, including freight service providers, research and academic institutions and the not-for-profit sector.
In his message during the launch, Minister Grant emphasised the importance of participation of all stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of the strategy. The Western Cape Government will develop appropriate partnerships with stakeholders, including the private sector, to perform actions in the strategy.
The Minister would like to thank all stakeholders who attended the launch and encourages ongoing engagement and participation during implementation of the strategy to improve our ability to move freight in the Western Cape, BETTER TOGETHER.
