Sport Federations in the West Coast District grateful for funding

22 April 2016

The West Coast District was delighted when the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) hosted the annual Sport Cheque Handovers on Thursday 21 April 2016 at the Alan Boesak Community Hall in Piketberg. The total funding amounted to R615 000 towards the various sport federations in the district, creating more opportunities for the communities and the youth.

The following sport federations received funds: West Coast Athletics, West Coast Boxing, West Coast Cycling, West Coast Darts, West Coast Gymnastics, West Coast Judo, West Coast Kickboxing Association, West Coast Klawerjas, West Coast Netball Union, West Coast Pool Association and West Coast Shore Angling.

The Executive Mayor of the Bergrivier Municipality, Evert Manuel, delivered the welcome speech and thanked all the delegates for attending. DCAS Minister Anroux Marais delivered the keynote address and mentioned that we should all “celebrate our diversity”. “Sport is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our diversity. There is no better way to do so than through sport,” she said.

DCAS supports sporting federations with funding. The funds should be used to develop and grow local sporting talent in our communities. Let us continue to grow our sporting talent BETTER TOGETHER.
