Distinguished guest,

It gives me great pleasure to address you at the fourth Mossel Bay Sports Festival.

Community festivals with a focus on sport are important for social inclusion and social inclusion through sport is at the centre of my department’s mission. Our mission is to encourage excellence and inclusiveness in sport and culture through the effective, efficient and sustainable use of our resources, and through creative partnerships with others. In moving to excellence, we will create the conditions for access and mass participation, talent identification and skills development. It is through sports festivals of this nature that we become closer to realizing our vision of a socially inclusive, creative, active and connected Western Cape.

In closing, sport and recreation make a substantive and significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the province. I thank each person who had a hand in the success of this festival and encourage you to enjoy each day of it, each code and most importantly the company of each other.

I thank you.
