A total of 56 learners from 12 Western Cape high schools will be competing for top honours in the provincial road safety debate competition at the University of Cape Town (UCT) on 19 September 2015.
The competition will be hosted by the Department of Transport and Public Works and the UCT Township Debating League.
Learners are from the following high schools:
Contestants were selected after elimination rounds were held earlier this month.
The competition uses the World School Style (WSS) debate format.
This innovative participatory education approach to road safety awareness encourages young pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, novice drivers and passengers to become responsible road users.
The five best debaters will go on to represent the Western Cape at the national road safety debate competition in Gauteng from 5 to 9 October 2015.
The Department is committed to working together with tertiary education institutions to raise road awareness of high school learners through developing their debating skills.
