The Ambassador of France, Madame Elizabeth Barbier, and the Western Cape Minister of Health, Theuns Botha, will officially open an anti-retroviral treatment (ART) site at the Grabouw Community Day Centre on Thursday, 20 June 2013.
Grabouw Community Day Centre was officially opened in 1978, with a two-bed maternity ward and four midwives. The other services available, rendered by two professional nurses, were family planning, TB services and immunisations.
In 1986, curative services was added and rendered by a doctor, a professional nurse and a nursing assistant. The number of patients seen was only 30 per day.
In 2009, The French President donated over R12 million for the construction of an ART site at Grabouw Clinic.
