Media Alert: Minister Meyer to Launch 2013 National Archives Week

Today, 6 May 2013, the importance of preserving our documented memory as well as gaining insight into the impact of the past on our daily lives will be the focus when Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Dr Ivan Meyer, officially launches National Archives Week at the Western Cape Archives and Records Service, 72 Roeland Street, Cape Town.

Themed “Looking Back into Your Past” The National Archives Week Programme will run each day (6-10 May) from 09:00 until 15:00. Activities will include guided tours, presentations about the functions of the Archives Service, workshops and exhibitions. In addition, representatives from the Western Cape branch of the Genealogical Society of South Africa will be on hand to assist people who would like to trace their family histories.
