On 17 and 18 April 2015, 25 alcohol blitz roadblocks across the Western Cape saw a total of 1 786 vehicles stopped as part of Provincial Traffic Services safety campaign.
Two road traffic fatalities were recorded this weekend.
A total of 1 083 drivers were screened for (being under suspicion of) driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in 15 arrests.
The highest breath alcohol reading was recorded in Somerset West at 1.16 mg/1 000 ml, which was four times the legal limit of 0.24 mg/1 000 ml.
A total of 2 091 vehicles were screened for speeding of which 206 speeding offences were recorded. A total 167 fines were issued for various traffic violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness to the amount of R 222 000.
