What is  Agri-processing?

Agri-processing is defined as being a subset of the manufacturing sector that processes raw materials and intermediate products derived from Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

The Agri-processing sector, therefore prioritizes the following industries: manufacturers of food, beverages and natural products. 

Who are we?

The Agri-processing unit is responsible for the development of the various sub-sectors in the Agri-processing sector by providing strategic interventions to increase production, competition and boost exports.

Key programmes and initiatives

The following programmes and initiatives are focused on:

Food processing industry

Food processing is the transformation of agricultural products into food, or one form of food into other forms. The production processes include beverages, juices, canning, wine, jams, spices, sauces, olive oil, condiments, snacks and various pastes.

Beverage processing industry

The non-alcoholic beverage industry includes the processing of soft drinks, sports drinks, energy drinks, bottled waters, flavoured and/or enhanced waters, ready-to-drink teas and coffees and dairy based beverages.

Natural products industry

A natural product is a substance producted by a living organism-that is, found in nature. The Natural products sector, ranges from natural extracts and essential oil production to natural cosmetics, perfume and personal care, indigenous foods using indigenous botanicals, thatching reed, and even woodturning using indigenous woods.
