Western Cape Indigenous Game Team gears up for Nationals

30 August 2017

The Sport Development Component of the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) hosted an Indigenous Game Training Camp on 25 - 28 August 2017 at the Western Cape Sport School in Kuils River. This is in preparation of Team Western Cape as they head to the National Indigenous Games Festival in Limpopo from 22 – 29 September 2017.

The team consisting of 200 men and women from across the province will compete in the following sport codes: Morabaraba, Koko, Drie Stokkies, Diketo, Dibeke, Jukskei, Intonga, Ncuva and Kgati.

Mthuthu Msizi from Sport Development said: “The Western Cape Indigenous Games Team received high intensity training from expert coaches at the training camp. It also provided the opportunity for team building among the participants so that they can bring their A-game to the National Indigenous Games Festival”.

The National Sport and Recreation Plan acknowledges Indigenous Games as a priority sport code in the country, thereby facilitating active participation. The Western Cape is one of the nine provinces competing at the inter-provincial festival.

DCAS encourages youth to take part in indigenous games in their communities. Let us unite and grow our young sporting talent BETTER TOGETHER.
