Matric trial exams: A valuable learning opportunity

23 August 2026

Statement by Minister Jaco Londt, Minister of Education Western Cape

The matric trial examinations officially begin this week, and I would like to wish all learners the very best.

These examinations are an important milestone in a matriculant’s academic year as they prepare for the final National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations. They provide learners with an opportunity to assess their progress, identify their strengths, and pinpoint areas that require additional focus and effort before the final examinations.

There are 71 289 full-time NSC candidates for 2026.

Learners are encouraged to utilise the various support resources available on the Western Cape Education Department’s (WCED) website to support and enhance their exam preparation:

The WCED Matric Support platform provides learners with access to the following support categories:

  • Telematics Schools Project videos for Grade 12 learners.
  • Grade 12 exam question papers and memoranda.
  • Study guides and subject-specific academic support.
  • Study tips and success resources.
  • Information on funding for further studies.
  • Health and wellbeing support resources.
  • Free internet and related services through WCG eCentres.

I hope every learner approaches these examinations as a valuable learning opportunity.

Stay focused, remain disciplined, and have confidence in your ability to succeed.

The Western Cape is behind you every step of the way. Good luck, work hard, and make yourselves proud!
