Urgent Maintenance to be done on the Voëlvlei Bulk Water Pipeline

6 December 2010

The Water and Sanitation Department has to do emergency repair work to the Voëlvlei bulk water pipeline from 20:00 on Wednesday evening, 08 December, until 20:00 on Friday 10 December 2010. The impact of the repair work is expected to be minimal, but will most likely cause low water pressure in northern areas of the City.

The repair work will entail the Department's main-laying crew fixing a leak on the pipeline, and replacing a steel flange. This requires that the bulk water supply line be shut down for the duration of the work.

Residents of the Durbanville, Langeberg Ridge, Philadelphia and Fisantekraal areas are kindly requested to reduce their water consumption considerably between tomorrow evening and Friday evening, to ensure that the water levels in the reservoirs that supply their areas are maintained at above fifty percent (50%) for the duration of the shutdown. The objective of this request to reduce water consumption is to prevent the reservoirs from running dry, as this could cause further complications in the supply line.

The City apologises for any inconvenience caused, and requests residents along the Voëlvlei pipeline to adhere to this request in order to ensure a successful and incident free shutdown.
