Western Cape Government responds to damage to Beaufort West water supply pipeline

The Western Cape Government is working closely with the Beaufort West Municipality and other stakeholders following severe weather conditions that caused significant damage to the town's main water supply pipeline.

"Our immediate priority is to ensure that residents continue to have access to safe drinking water while repairs are undertaken. We have made R1 million available to support emergency repairs and are working closely with the municipality to restore services as quickly as possible,” Anton Bredell, Western Cape Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning said.

Minister Bredell added that the provincial government together with municipal officials are also coordinating the deployment of water tankers across affected areas to ensure that residents continue to have access to clean drinking water.

Residents are advised that, until further notice, water supplied by authorised water tankers is the only approved source of water for domestic use. Community members are urged to refrain from drinking or using water from household taps until the municipality confirms that the water supply is safe.

Residents will be required to collect water from designated water distribution points across the town. Details of these locations, together with operating times and any updates, will be communicated through the Beaufort West Municipality's official communication platforms.

The public is urged to use the available water responsibly and only for essential purposes to help ensure that sufficient supplies remain available to all affected residents while repairs are underway.

“By working together, we can ensure that essential water supplies are available to all residents while repair work is completed," Minister Bredell said.

The Western Cape Government will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
