Stellenbosch/ Klapmuts roadworks near completion

21 November 2018

Current roadworks on the R44 between Stellenbosch and Klapmuts are expected to be completed towards the end of December 2018. This R66 million Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) project started in July 2017.

Key works undertaken during the project include: repairing and resealing 15 km of Main Road 27 (R44) between Stellenbosch and Klapmuts; adding turning lanes at the Knorhoek, Kromme Rhee and Muldersvlei intersections; and repairing all drainage structures.

Until the project is complete, traffic may be rerouted onto temporary deviations in places. Access to all commercial properties, private properties and intersecting roads will be maintained at all times.

This project is creating a number of short-term jobs and skills development opportunities. To date, a total of R6,8 million has been spent on procuring goods and services from targeted enterprises and 13 903 person-days of work has been created for persons from the Stellenbosch municipal area.

Members of the travelling public are requested to be patient and exercise caution when using this road while it is under construction.
