Route 60 Nearing Completion

26 April 2013

The R60 between Ashton and Swellendam should be open for traffic on 3 May 2013.

The road was closed due to a crater caused by a slip failure.

Placing of layer work was stopped on 23 April 2013 due to the contractor's source that dried up, and the pending results of soil laboratory tests for the new material delayed completion.

The new material was trucked in over the weekend from Riversdale and go ahead was given to start placing and compacting it.

Motorists are requested to continue following the temporary road signs redirecting traffic via the N2 and the R317.

The signs were erected at major intersections in the following areas:

  • Ashton
  • Robertson
  • Bonnievale
  • Swellendam
