Resealing of R43 between Bot River and Sandbaai

The Department of Transport and Public Works has started to reseal the R43 between Bot River and Sandbaai.

This road infrastructure project, valued at R37 million, is scheduled for completion in mid-2016.

Currently, up to 7 600 vehicles travel daily from Bot River, while 16 000 vehicles travel from Sandbaai. This 27 km stretch of the road was last refurbished in 1998. Work will include the patching of localised surface defects.

General Traffic Management

There will be half-width construction with stop/ go operations during the day and a traffic light system at night.

Possible Delays

Motorists can expect weather-related delays.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

A total of 3 000 person-days will be created for local labour in the Overstrand Municipality. Twelve percent (12%) of the contract value is expected to go towards targeted enterprises in the Western Cape.
