Periodic maintenance on Route 43

15 February 2019
Villiersdorp Villiersdorp

Notice of road closures due to road maintenance between the N2 and Villiersdorp (km 0.00 – km 24.00), as well as on Route 43 between Villiersdorp and Worcester (km 0.380 – km 12.00). These works are expected to be complete late in 2019, if everything goes according to plan.

Stop/ go road closures will be in place where half-width construction is under way. Motorists can expect delays of up to 20 minutes at each closure.

The periodic maintenance contract on Route 43 from the N2 to Villiersdorp, and on Route 43 from Villiersdorp to Worcester, was awarded to WTW Civil in October 2018.

The expected completion date of the contract is late in 2019.

Traffic will be accommodated on the existing road or on temporary deviations. In some instances, signalled one-way traffic (stop/go closures) will be necessary. It is a provision of the contract that traffic must be accommodated with the least delay and discomfort to the public as possible. No full road closures are allowed. A maximum of three half-width day-night closures will be allowed at any one time.

In addition, a single daytime partial lane closure will be permitted for each road section.

The safety and convenience of the travelling public are of utmost importance and every effort will be made to ensure that all temporary road signs, cones, flag operators and speed controls are maintained and are effective, and that courtesy is extended to the public at all times.

The contractor is required to make use of approved methods to control the movement of equipment and vehicles so as not to constitute a hazard on public roads.

The public is requested to be patient and exercise caution when using these roads.
