Ongoing repairs on Chapman’s Peak Drive

Good progress is being made with repairing infrastructure on Chapman’s Peak Drive after the wildfires that devastated the Cape Peninsula in March 2015.

The concessionaire managing the road on behalf of the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works has estimated the cost of repairs at R1,5 million. All repairs are expected to be completed by the end of 2015.

Road signs and electrical infrastructure have been repaired or replaced. Fibre-optic cables at most of the look-out areas have been replaced, with some work still being done at the Noordhoek end. The weather station system at the Noordhoek look-out area has been replaced, commissioned and tested. The entire closed circuit television (CCTV) security system has been replaced and six of the seven cameras are working again. The irrigation system at the toll plaza has been restored, but the plaza board walk still needs repairs.

Current repairs have no impact on the flow of traffic. However, motorists should be aware that, when it rains in winter, the road will be closed for safety reasons. The safety of road users is the highest priority.
