Music Development Programme launched

9 September 2014

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) launched the HexValley Music Development Programme at HexValley Secondary School in De Doorns on 29 August 2014.

Learners from nearby schools and youth from surrounding communities streamed into the hall to enjoy the event. There were many performances on the day, from local schools and youth bands as well as guest performances from the Cape Philharmonic Youth Brass and Cape Music Institute.

Deputy Mayor of Breede Valley Municipality, JD Levendal, DCAS Chief Director: Cultural Affairs Hannetjie du Preez and DCAS Deputy Director: Arts and Culture Nerine Jeaven stressed the importance of arts and culture in communities. They urged the youth to embrace the opportunities presented by the music programme with both hands.

The music programme will be running at the school from 14:00–17:00, Mondays to Fridays.
