This Thursday (20 November 2014), Minister of Economic Opportunities, Alan Winde, will host a graduation ceremony for 29 young Western Cape residents who have qualified as professional chefs after taking part in the Western Cape Government’s Artisan Development Programme.
The programme prioritised the development of chefs after it was found that in several sectors, particularly our growing tourism industry, these skills were in high demand.
The 29 new graduates, the majority of whom are in their early twenties, come from across the region, including Nyanga, Mitchell’s Plain, Khayelitsha and Paarl. Of the 29, 24 have already secured jobs.
The group underwent a lengthy process to become qualified, including completing statutory 18-month internships and passing the practical trade tests.
They will receive their certificates from Minister Winde at the ceremony. All media are invited to attend. Photo ops will be arranged.
