Minister Anroux Marais congratulates Kevin Paul on first Paralympic gold medal

Anroux Marais, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport in the Western Cape, was witness to Team South Africa’s first medal at the Paralympic Games last night, when Kevin Paul took gold in the 100m Men’s breaststroke event.

Minister Marais is currently in Rio de Janeiro supporting the Paralympian athletes who are competing in the Olympics. “I am extremely proud to be able to be here and support our athletes. They are true examples of what can be achieved through hard work, passion and dedication. Kevin Paul has made South Africa proud with his win and we look forward to bringing home many more medals.” she said.

The Paralympics end on 18 September, and a large contingency of athletes from the Western Cape is representing South Africa at the Games.
