Media Alert: Minister Mbombo to Give her 67 Minutes at MOD Centre

17 July 2014

The big question for Mandela Day on 18 July is: How will you be spending your 67 minutes? Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs Sport, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, will be using the time to give back to the community by doing some work at a Mass participation; Opportunity and access; Development and growth (MOD) centre in Khayelitsha.

The MOD Programme is one of the flagship initiatives of the Western Cape Government. There are currently more than 181 MOD Centres across the province that provide sport and recreational activities to over 40 000 registered participants from disadvantaged communities and underserved schools. A holiday programme is run during school holidays to encourage youth to engage in healthy, safe activities during this time.

Minister Mbombo will be at the MOD centre at Isikhokelo Primary School in Khayelitsha, where she and her staff will be cleaning and helping to serve food to the children. She will be using this opportunity to get some “hands-on” experience of how a MOD centre is run.

All media are invited to attend. Interview and photo opportunities will be available.
