Media Alert: Minister Marais to Launch Dreamfields Project for Youth

12 June 2015

On Tuesday, 16 June 2015, Anroux Marais, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, will launch a programme of events where the Western Cape Government will partner with Dreamfields at the De la Bat School for the Deaf in Worcester.

This partnership will provide learners at various schools across the province the opportunity to participate in a football and netball tournament with an interesting twist. While some groups are playing, others will be engaged in dialogue sessions where learners can explore issues that affect them on a daily basis. Topics for discussion include bullying at school, alcohol and substance abuse and teenage pregnancy.

This event will give children from the deaf community the opportunity to participate in the tournament and for conversations to start between learners from the various schools.

After this event, the programme will roll out further tournaments and interventions that are linked to Days of Significance on our country’s calendar.

All media are invited to attend. Interview and photographic opportunities with Minister Marais will be available.

Time: 10:00

Venue: De la Bat School, Worcester
