Media Alert: Minister Marais Celebrates with Western Cape Paralympic Athletes

Anroux Marais, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport in the Western Cape, celebrated the achievements of the Western Cape athletes at the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro  this past weekend.

South Africa’s medal tally is currently on 6, with 5 of these medals being won by members of the Western Cape team. The Western Cape athletes who won medals are:

Charl du Toit – Gold in Men’s 100m
Hilton Langenhoven – Gold in Long Jump
Ntando Mhlangu – Silver in Men’s 200m
Ilse Hayes – Silver in Women’s 100m
Fanie van der Merwe – Bronze in Men’s 100m

Minister Marais expressed her pride at how well the Western Cape athletes had performed. “It was an incredible honour to support the team and congratulate the athletes on their achievements. The atmosphere in the Athletes’ Village was one of immense pride and joy.” she said.

The Paralympics continue until 18 September.
