Media Alert: Khayelitsha Beneficiaries to Receive Energy Efficient Houses

14 June 2013

Mr Zwelinzima Mange, a 76-year-old beneficiary, will receive the keys to his People's Housing Process (PHP) house in Site C, Khayelitsha, on 14 June at 12:00. He will receive his keys from Western Cape Human Settlements Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela, along with 75-year-old Ms Khanyisile Nobuzana.

PHP is a housing programme in which the beneficiaries play an active role in the project management and construction, which leads towards their empowerment and sense of ownership.

The beneficiaries, all who earn less than R3 500 per month, will also receive donations of energy efficient light bulbs from a sponsor company, NTL Lemnis. The bulbs are 80% more efficient than a regular incandescent bulb and cost around R46 a year, at eight hours use a day to run, as compared to R230 per year for a regular 60Watt bulb.

All media are invited.

Date: 14 June 2013
Place: Corner of Njongo Avenue and Vukani Street, Site C, Khayelitsha, Cape Town.

Directions: Take the N2 out of Cape Town. Turn right onto Mew Way, then right again onto Jeff Masemola Road. The first left is Njongo Avenue. Follow Njongo until you see the tent.
