Khayelitsha Commission: Premier Zille and Minister Plato hold progress briefing

6 August 2015

Tomorrow, 7 August 2015, Premier Helen Zille and Minister of Community Safety Dan Plato will brief the media on progress relating to the implementation of the Khayelitsha Commission of Inquiry’s recommendations.

The Commission – established by Premier Zille in 2012 – was  mandated to investigate a breakdown in relations between the Khayelitsha community and members of the SAPS. The Commission completed its work and handed over its final report and recommendations to the Premier on 25 August 2014.

The recommendations outline the specific roles that need to be played by the various stakeholders involved, including SAPS, the Western Cape Government and the City of Cape Town. Since the final report was received, the Western Cape Government has made a considerable effort to work with the community, NGOs and the SAPS regarding implementation of the recommendations.

Premier Zille and Minister Plato will give an update on the implementation of the recommendations and specifically the role of SAPS in this regard.

All media are welcome to attend.
