Keep fit, keep healthy

3 August 2015

The Western Cape on Wellness, or better known as WoW! is a provincial government project promoting a healthy lifestyle by building a culture of wellness. The project involves healthy eating and keeping fit. Minister Ivan Meyer decided to lead by example and participated in Die Burger MTB Challenge in Stellenbosch on 2 August.

Die Burger Mountain Bike Challenge (MTB), celebrated its 10th anniversary this year in Stellenbosch with more than 5 000 riders. It is one of South Africa’s largest one-day mountain bike events and is renowned for its challenging and picturesque Wineland routes.

Before starting his own 30km challenge, Minister Meyer encourages his fellow riders. “You must practice what you preach, fitness is extremely important for a healthy lifestyle and that is why I decided to involve my two sons who participated in the challenge with me” said Meyer.

“I’m a keen rider and has completed in a number of these challenges. This challenge was a particularly challenging one but I was motivated by my fellow riders who endured and finished the race” said Meyer. Minister Meyer completed his challenge within 2:56:41.
