Learners from Mass participation; Opportunity and access; Development and growth (MOD) Centres all over the Western Cape received “Sharp centre” baseball training on 1 March 2014 at the Athlone Athletics Baseball Club. Sharp centres are focused development opportunities for talented individuals. Participants then played two games under the guidance of experienced coaches.
This was the last formal preparation session for the Human Rights Day school tournament to be played on 21 March 2014.
Baseball curriculum developer Paul Bell said: “We saw visible improvement in the play of the learners as well as the approaches of the coaches. It’s evident that they are taking the programme very seriously. This bodes well for the future.”
