Education Minister to Visit Site of Recent Child Pedestrian Tragedy

13 October 2014

At 7:38 on Friday 8 August, a five-year-old boy on his way to school was struck and killed at a pedestrian crossing. The story of this little boy is symbolic of the dangers faced by small children on roads in our poorer communities.

On Monday morning, 13 October 2014, Debbie Schafer, Minister of Education will visit Nkazimlo Primary, the site of this tragedy and will participate in a “long short walk” and scholar patrol demonstration conducted by the Road Safety Management team from the Department of Transport and Public Works.

After the scholar patrol demonstration Minister Schafer will share a few words and will be available for questions.

The visit is part of Safely Home’s Child Pedestrian Safety focus for the month of October, under the campaign hashtag #SafeRoadsSafeKids.

More information is available on the website, and on Twitter @WCGovSafelyHome, #SafeRoadsSafeKids.
