Education MEC Sends his Condolences to Family of Drowned Grade Twelve Learner

28 September 2010

Yesterday, a Grade 12 learner from Umyezo Wama-Apile Combined School in Grabouw drowned after attending a holiday school.

I am deeply saddened by this loss and would like to send my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mkhanyisi.

My thoughts and prayers are with them.

Learners attending the spring school were informed yesterday about the tragedy and the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) arranged for counsellors to debrief learners and assist with trauma counselling.

Tuition at the spring school continued this morning.

An investigation into this incident will be conducted.
