Department Funds Boland Sport Federations and Clubs

11 April 2014

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) allocated funding to sport federations affiliated to the Boland Sport Council at the region’s annual cheque handover ceremony in Ceres on Thursday, 10 April 2014. The local Eagle’s Netball Club and Bella Vista Chess Club also received equipment through the DCAS Club Development Programme.

In total, R855 000 was allocated to 28 federations. This amount will be invested for development, transformation, administration and capacity building. A further R250 000 will go to 14 federations for major sporting events.

The Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport thanked the federations for using sport as a social tool to promote cultural warmth. “You are also playing a key role to limiting opportunities for crime through the promotion and development of sport. With your dedication and passion for sport development, you are creating a platform for people to participate in the sport of their choice and excel.” Minister Meyer also encouraged federations to promote tourism in the region this year.

The Eagle’s Netball Club was delighted to receive funding as it assists them greatly. Chairperson Jo-Anne November says that, for the past two years, the DCAS Club Development Programme has heightened their impact in the community and gotten more players involved in their structures.

President of the Boland Sport Council Mr Pieter Lourens added that through the funding, the department and its partners show their on-going commitment to the development of sport and recreation opportunities in the region.
