Delft Community Celebrates With Blind Gogo

12 December 2016

On Thursday, 08 December 2016 the Western Cape Human Settlements Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela handed over a house to elated Gogo Nozolile Qoboza in Delft.

“I am delighted to be here today to hand over this house to Gogo Nozolile. It gives me joy to hand over a house to someone like Gogo Nozolile because the elderly are our first priority for houses,” said Minister Madikizela.

An overjoyed Gogo Nozolile said: “I would like to thank the Minister for giving me my own house today. Please put my only daughter on the title deed. I am very happy today that I will live my remaining years happily in my own house”

Minister met Gogo Nozolile whilst conducting project site visits in the area when community leaders appealed to the Minister to assist Gogo Nozolile.  “I was touched by Gogo’s living conditions. I decided that day that Gogo Nozolile should get a house here. People like Gogo Nozolile are the people that we prioritise. It always concerns me when I see older people living in appalling conditions” said Minister Madikizela.

The house that Gogo Nozolile received forms part of the Department’s Delft Symphony Infill Sites Housing Project. Upon completion, the project will deliver a total of 389 Breaking New Ground (BNG) housing units.  To date, 258 units have been completed and the remaining 131 is currently under construction. All the housing units will be completed by March 2017.

The house hand over is also a reflection of the Department’s strategic goals to ensure that the most needy are prioritised in housing delivery.
