De Novo Treatment Centre - Leading Africa!

8 July 2010

The Department of Social Development is proud to announce that their De Novo treatment centre is the first in-patient drug and alcohol treatment facility in Africa to achieve international accreditation.

Earlier this year, the Department of Social Development invited the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) to assess the De Novo Treatment Centre and evaluate the quality of the services it provided. The team of surveyors consulted with the staff of De Novo and conducted interviews with clients served by the facility. Based on the recommendation of the surveyors' report, a service provider may be awarded CARF accreditation for one or three years. In this instance, De Novo was awarded a three year accreditation. De Novo achieved success by meeting 95% of the service standards set by the organisation.

CARF is a world renowned organisation, and accreditation by this institute signals a service provider's commitment to continually improve services, encourage feedback, and serve the community. CARF International is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services. In order for a facility to gain accreditation from CARF it must prove that it focuses on quality service as well as the best possible outcomes on customer satisfaction.

With this achievement under its belt, De Novo is committed to provide a good quality service to its clients and to improve the existing best practices in assisting the citizens of the Western Cape and South Africa in reducing harmful drug and alcohol abuse.
