DCAS equips Cultural Councils at Capacity Workshops

25 November 2016

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) has begun capacity-building workshops for the Cultural Councils registered with the Western Cape Cultural Commission. The Cultural Councils represent various communities who share a common cultural heritage across the province.

On 24 and 25 November 2016, the workshop for the representatives of the Metro was hosted in partnership with the Department of Social Development at the Melkbos Cultural Facility. The council administrators were introduced to departmental structures and equipped to comply with good governance. They were also encouraged to explore other avenues for funding investment in the uniqueness of their communities.

DCAS Arts and Culture project manager Thandwa Ntshona stressed the value of capacity-building and said: “It is a platform that brings Cultural Councils together to build social inclusion and to introduce the representatives to various economic opportunities.

DCAS assists communities to learn new skills while developing and preserving their cultural heritage. The Cultural Councils should make use of these workshops to ensure that they comply with good governance. Let us create successful, sustainable committees. BETTER TOGETHER.
