Cape Winelands and Overberg in Great Spirits at Better Together Games

19 October 2015

Enthusiasm, excitement and confidence were the key elements to a successful day at the Better Together Games, this time with the Cape Winelands and the Overberg districts.

On Friday 16 October 2015 the Western Cape Government Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) hosted the third annual Better Together Games at the Worcester Boland Park in partnership with Cape Winelands, Overberg, Old Mutual, Nedbank and Peninsula Beverages.

The day kicked off with a march-past around the race track by the various departments, enthusiastically showing off their mascots, outfits and confidence. The participants were able to take part in various sporting activities such as contact sports like rugby, soccer, tug-of-war and netball, but they could also participate in more relaxed, indoor sports such as pool, darts and dominoes.

Advocate Lyndon Bouah from DCAS welcomed all participants and sponsors at the Better Together Games. “The cabinet of the Western Cape took a decision to promote wellness. We are therefore happy that the municipalities, the sponsors Old Mutual, Nedbank and Peninsula Beverages have all decided to work together to promote wellness,” he said. “It is a great privilege for us to be associated with an event like this. It is the third one for the year, but not the last.”

The last event, the Metropole Better Together Games will take place at Coetzenburg Stadium in Stellenbosch on 23 October 2015.
