Avoid the N1 between Old Oak Rd and the R300 this weekend

11 May 2017

The N1 between Old Oak Road and the R300 interchange will be closed this weekend to allow for the safe demolition of the western portion of the Old Oak Road bridge. Local alternative routes are expected to be heavily congested, and motorists are encouraged to avoid this temporary road closure by using the greater Cape Town freeway network, outbound: N1 – M5 – N2 – R300, and inbound: N7 – N2 – R300.

Using the N2 and R300 to avoid the N1 closure will add about 15 km to journey and about 10 minutes to travelling time. Using the local alternative routes will add about 8 km to an onward journey along the N1, but will take at least 30 minutes longer, and up to an hour in peak periods.

It is possible to use the Brackenfell Blvd and Okavango Road bridges to avoid the closure, but these are expected to be heavily congested this weekend. Local motorists in the Bellville/ Durbanville area are encouraged to use Bill Bezuidenhout Ave to get across the N1.
