Arts, culture and sport practitioners encouraged to apply to Relief Fund

3 April 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant effect on individuals in both the arts and the sporting spheres.

The lockdown regulations have led to individuals in these fields having to face a loss of income over the next few weeks and months.

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) encourages practitioners in the fields of Arts and Culture and Sport and Recreation to apply for assistance from the recently announced Relief fund from the National Department of Sports, Arts and Culture.

Anroux Marais, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, encourages individuals to make use of this opportunity.

“While we all need to adhere to the regulations and maintain social distancing to stop the spread of COVID-19, we must also find ways to access relief funding for our artists and athletes. Once we get through this difficult time, we need both arts and sport to bring a renewed sense of hope and purpose to the people of the Western Cape and South Africa.” she said.
