Media Alert: West Coast District Academy System Launch

The official launch of the West Coast District Academy System will take place at the Protea Hotel in Saldanha Bay on Saturday, 16 February 2013 at 11:00.

 The stakeholders for the West Coast Academy include the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), West Coast Sport Council, South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Saldanha Bay Municipality and the West Coast Federations.

The initial phase of the academy will include the codes of athletics, water sport, kickboxing, gymnastics, netball, rugby, football and cricket. The academy will aim to provide support to these codes in the hope of producing talented athletes who will excel in their respective codes to achieve top honours in sport.

The Saldanha Sport Complex in Saldanha Bay will serve as the central place for the academy.

The launch will consist of a variety of guest speakers addressing the vast impact and importance the Academy will have for the Western Cape and how it will assist in building the nation. The West Coast District Academy System will be the bridge that forms the pathway for athletes to achieve excellence.
