Minister Marais Takes Up Wheelchair Stroll Challenge With Brandon Beack

5 December 2016

BRANDON BEACK

At the official send off of the Western Cape Paralympians ahead of their participation at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games, Minister Anroux Marais met Brandon Beack, a talented young gymnast who represented the Western Cape in the National Gymnastics championships.

In August 2012 Brandon was left a C6/C7 quadriplegic after a tragic gymnastics accident. His parents then founded the Walking with Brandon Foundation to assist in his rehabilitation. The project soon grew into a rehabilitation centre for many others who have acquired a disability through sporting injuries, accidents or intentional assault. The foundation was recently featured on Carte Blanche and can be viewed on http://carteblanche.dstv.com/player/1108504/

In a bid to raise awareness on the plight people with disabilities, especially those in wheelchairs, Minister Marais accepted Brandon’s challenge to join him in a wheelchair for a stroll through Cape Town.

Tomorrow, 6 December 2016, Minister Marais, together with Cllr Anda Ntsodo, the Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services will take up Brandon’s challenge and join him in wheelchairs for a stroll from Cape Town Police Station to the train station.
