MOD Stars Go Big at Big Walk

Even the most tired Discovery Cape Times Big Walk participants were bobbing to the beat as dancers and singers selected from SHARP centres entertained the crowd on Sunday, 10 November 2013. 

Zaitoon Ismail, Mas-Uda Van Sitters, Carron Smith, Kashiff Dunjana, Toufeeq Baatjies, Tyler Botha and Charlton Dolf got the crowd going with some acrobatic dance moves.

Singer Chad van Rooyen and Mass participation; Opportunity and access; Development and growth programme (MOD) centre coach, Robin Peters then provided some soothing melody to ease the aches and pains of the walkers.

Mr Anthony Lottering of  Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport said: "It's important for learners to establish confidence on stage. They need ongoing showcasing to build their character and self-esteem so that by the time they reach the final performance in April next year they will be more than ready."

Carron Smith said that performing for such a big crowd was a thrill for her and her fellow dancers. "It was an amazing experience to get to do what we love to do for the crowd. The audience was great and really responded well to what we did," she said.

The next showcase for these outstanding performers will be on 23 and 30 November at the SHARP centre at the Kuilsriver Sports School.

The reaction of the Big Walk crowd made it clear that they support what the MOD centre learners are doing. We can all look forward to many more good things from MOD centres.
