Western Cape Human Settlements Minister, Bonginkosi Madikizela, handed over 500 title deeds to residents in Mount Pleasant; Hawston and Kleinmond in the Overstrand region.
The handover is part of the Department’s strategic objective to empower vulnerable citizens through ensuring security of tenure and to inculcate a sense of ownership and responsibility in housing beneficiaries.
The title deeds handover program is part of the Overstrand Integrated Residential Development Programme (IRDP) Housing Projects that were initiated by Municipality to alleviate housing shortages in Overstrand and to accommodate qualifying beneficiaries from Hawston, Mount Pleasant and Kleinmond.
The recipients, some who are disabled, and wheelchair bound were exhilarated when they received their title deeds from Minister Madikizela together with executive mayor of Overstrand, Dudley Coetzee.
Minister Madikizela expressed the importance of owning a title deed and told residents to look after it and cherish the document.
“With this title deed the department is contributing to land reform – and correcting the mistakes of the past and making the residents home owners.”
Executive mayor of the Overstrand region, Dudley Coetzee, urged residents to get a testament, so they can decide who will receive their homes if anything happens to them.
