Toll Fees Hike for Chapman’s Peak Drive

3 August 2014

A contractual arrangement between the Department of Transport and Public Works and the Concessionaire provides for an annual increase in the Chapman’s Peak Drive toll tariff fees.

The latest increase took effect on 1 August 2014. The increase is linked to the percentage change between the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in March of the previous year and March of the current year, plus 0.4 %.

Discount tariffs still apply to motorists who have pre-registered with the Concessionaire and those who maintain a minimum balance of R50 plus one standard trip in their accounts. Discount tariffs only apply to non-commercial use and vehicle class 1 (motor cycles, motor tricycles and motor quad bikes) and vehicle class 2 (light motor vehicles, minibus and utility vehicles).

In order to receive a discount on toll fees, regular users must register with the Concessionaire.

  • Taxis that have registered with the Concessionaire are charged at a flat rate of R19 per trip.
  •  Registered frequent users receive a discount with effect from the fourth trip in a calendar month. The size of the discount increases, depending on the number of trips. The count of the number of trips goes back to 0 at the beginning of a new month.
  • Users with a valid Wild Card and who have registered with the Concessionaire receive a discount from the first trip. Wild Cards may be obtained from South African National Parks or CapeNature.
  • Registered frequent users can use a credit card or a card supplied by the operator. If they use the operator’s card, the card must have R50 in credit plus the equivalent of one standard trip toll. No deposit is needed if a credit card is used.

For light motor vehicles, the toll fees start at R38 for a single trip. Ambulances, police, fire trucks and rescue vehicles with the appropriate licences will be exempted from paying toll fees in the performance of their official duties.
