Many teams are working hard to ensure that the Western Cape emerges as the best performing province in the National Schools Sport Championship currently taking place in Pretoria.
On Thursday, 13 December 2012, the chess, gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, netball and football teams played at various venues. The rugby teams attended a coaching clinic where they enjoyed a motivational talk from former Springbok and Free State player Kabamba Floors.
Team Western Cape continued its fine form. At the Heartfelt Arena, the Western Cape Sport School u18 boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams both secured impressive wins. The u13 boys’ and girls’ teams from Westcott and Kleinberg Primary Schools were the only Western Cape teams to suffer defeats.
Bryan Abrahams, captain of the unbeaten u18 Western Cape Sport School volleyball side, said his team aims to win all the awards, as well as making the province proud. “We’ve proved in this tournament that we are the best, based on our experience of playing together as a team. It would be awesome to win this and continue to contribute to the growth of the code in the province”, Abrahams said.
Meanwhile, the team manager Mr Edmond Poole says although the players are enjoying this experience, most of them are homesick. “It’s the first time that many have been so far from home, and this is showing in their performances. But we can definitely draw a lot of positives from this tour. We came here to enjoy ourselves as a team”, Poole said.
Team Western Cape continues to aim high to turn the vision of winning together into a reality.
