Minister Meyer to Announce the Chairperson of the Language Committee

Further to the recent appointment of members to the Western Cape Language Committee, Dr Ivan Meyer, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, will tomorrow, 19 September 2012, following the inaugural meeting of the committee, introduce the chairperson and deputy chairperson to the media.

The Western Cape Language Committee is appointed in terms of the Western Cape Language Act of 1998 to advise the minister on matters related to the implementation and promotion of the Western Cape Language Policy.

The appointment comes at a critical time, given that the Use of Official Languages Bill, 2011, is due to be approved by the President before the end of the year and the growing criticism of the effectiveness of PANSALB.
