Teamwork and smiles at Eden Better Together Games

1 October 2018

Western Cape Government employees from across the Eden region, as well as local municipalities staff and Infantry School, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Correctional Services and the South African Police Service attended and took part in the annual Better Together Games.

The games were held at the Rosemore Sports Complex in George on 28 September 2018. The games are hosted by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), with Old Mutual, Nedbank and Peninsula Beverages as sponsors.

Despite a rainy start to the day, staff from the region donned their sports gear and took part in the various codes, such as a fun-walk, rugby, mini-football, cricket, chess, darts and a firm favourite, tug-of-war, that was characterised by teamwork and a lot of laughter!

Johannes Neethling from DCAS welcomed everyone to the sports day and thanked them for braving the wind and rain to participate.

The Executive Mayor of George, Alderman Melvin Naik, officially opened the games and encouraged all participants to get to know their colleagues. “While this is a competitive event, it is also about teamwork and friendship” said the Mayor.

The other Better Together Games will take place at the following venues and dates:

  • Overberg - 5 October 2018 at Caledon Sports Complex, Caledon
  • Cape Winelands - 12 October 2018 at Boland Park Stadium, Worcester
  • West Coast - 19 October 2018 at Vredenburg Sports Grounds
  • Metropolitan - 26 October 2018 at Blue Downs Sports Complex, Blue Downs

The Western Cape Government supports the Better Together Games. Be part of the activities and support your colleagues. Let us all participate and work at getting fit and healthy. BETTER TOGETHER.
