A pocket-size booklet of isiXhosa terms will be launched on 28 February 2014 by Dr Ivan Meyer, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport. The publication is the product of five years of terminology development work by members of the Western Cape Provincial Language Forum (PLF).
The PLF is a body established by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) to help give effect to the Western Cape Language Policy. It comprises language practitioners from most Western Cape Government departments, some municipalities in the province as well as the national Parliament.
Collaborative terminology development by members of the PLF is one of the ways that DCAS supports language development and equal treatment for the three official languages of the province – Afrikaans, English and isiXhosa.
