Wesbank High School - Further Investigations Following Meeting

6 February 2007
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has decided to investigate the performance of Grade 11 learners at Wesbank Secondary further following our meeting with parents and learners last night (Tuesday, 6 February 2007).

Said Director of Communications Paddy Attwell: "This investigation will include looking at the examination scripts of every learner. We want to leave no stone unturned in this investigation to ensure that we treat every learner fairly.

"Officials of our Metropole East Education Management and Development Centre (EMDC) are now checking every script as well as how the school captured the marks in every instance.

"We have given this investigation top priority and will complete it before the end of the week."

In the meeting last night attended by both learners and their parents, 49 of the 50 were informed that they have to repeat grade 11 this year.

If they want to complete their matric this year, they have other options, including attending adult basic education classes, registering as a private candidate, or applying to an FET college.
