City Pays Tribute to 75 Adult Learners

5 September 2006
A sprightly 63 year old municipal cleaner from Kraaifontein is the oldest of a group of 75 City of Cape Town employees who have just passed their Grade 9 exams.

Mr Dute Mchodololo and his fellow students are to receive their certificates tomorrow during a special ceremony to celebrate International Adult Learners' Week.

The 75 graduates form part of 464 employees currently on the City of Cape Town Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) programme.

The adult learners are from all the City's service directorates, including Electricity, Water, Sold Waste, Transport, Roads & Stormwater, Parks, Health, Metro Police, Sport & Recreation and Emergency Services.

Mr Rodney Pick, HR Manager at the City of Cape Town will present the certificates to the graduates during an open sports day attended by fellow adult learners and members of the community.

Sadly, the adult learner who achieved the top marks for mathematical literacy, Johannes Willemse of City Parks: Helderberg, passed away on the 5 September after a long illness.
