German Experts Help Create Jobs for Youth with Disabilities

Top youth facilitators from Berlin are in Cape Town to address a conference on how to equip young adults with disabilities to earn a living.

Hosted by the City of Cape Town and the SA German Network (SAGeNet), the four day event takes place from 10 to 13 October 2006 around the theme, "Social Development through Sustainable Partnerships".

About 65 youth development experts are expected to attend the conference which focuses on the right of adults with disabilities to earn an income.

This is one of many exchange programmes initiated by SAGeNet between the Cape Mental Health Society and relevant organisations in Germany over the past seven years.

SAGeNet is a network of German and South African organisations aimed at building world peace by forging relationships between countries in the northern and southern hemisphere.

As part of the conference programme, delegates will visit Training Workshops Unlimited in Athlone for adults with an intellectual disability, the Mosicoce Recycling Project in Nyanga, the Vukuzenzele Food Garden in Guguletu, and the ZipZap Children's Circus.

The four day conference will officially be opened by the Deputy Mayor of Cape Town, Andrew Arnolds and the German Consul, Joerg-Werner Marquardt.
