Safety and Cycle Tour to promote safety and mobility in the Western Cape

29 October 2019
Premier Alan Winde and the Western Cape Cabinet will, this Thursday, embark a four day cycle tour from Saldanha Bay to L’Agulhas, with a focus on safety and improving mobility in the province.

The Cabinet will be joined by cycling activists and those involved in the promotion of mobility.

The ride will highlight how bicycles can be used to uplift communities and make them safer. A total of 200 bicycles will be handed over to learners and neighbourhood watch members at various stops.

Premier Winde will also hand over a number of books to libraries on the way, sharing his passion for reading with young children.

Other stops along the way will focus on various safety initiatives in small towns, road safety and traffic blitzes.

Health screenings will also be offered to residents in some of the areas visited.

Premier Winde said: "This ride is an opportunity for me to get into communities to share the Western Cape Government's Safety Plan and to see first hand some of the initiatives being undertaken to make towns safer. We'll be accompanied by people from organisations that are committed to improving mobility and opportunities by providing bicycles to communities."
